Desmosedici Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When will the first units be delivered to customers?
A: Production is scheduled to begin in July 2007.
Q: How much will the bike cost?
A: $65,000 MSRP. The price is different country by country due to various duties, taxes etc., and the prices are expressed in local currency. Each country will announce the price for their domestic market.
Q: What will the final price include?
A: 3 year warranty. 3 year free scheduled maintenance. Racing exhaust and CPU. Rear racing stand. Custom bike cover. Sponsor sticker kit.
Q: Will the bike be produced in a limited number series? Will each unit be identified by a number?
A: The bike will be produced in small quantities; the production capacity is about 400 per year. The bikes will have a frame number sequence, but the bikes will not be numbered 1 of xxx, 2 of xxx etc.
Q: Are you planning on making a less expensive or large production version of this model?
A: No.
Q: Where can one buy the bike, and when will it be possible to reserve one and how?
A: Your local Ducati Dealer is the only place to reserve and purchase a Desmosedici RR. Reservations will be accepted starting June 2, 2006.
Q: Will 999R owners be given priority?
A: Yes, all 999R owners will have delivery priority if they make their reservation before September 30, 2006.
Q: Will it be possible to have maintenance performed in any Authorised Ducati Dealer?
A: Service on the DesmosediciRR requires special training and certification. Every Ducati Dealer will have the opportunity to become certified. To take advantage of the 3 year free scheduled service and warranty, Desmosedici RR owners must have scheduled maintenance and warranty performed by a Ducati Desmosedici RR certified dealer.
Q: Will maintenance be very expensive?
A: Scheduled maintenance is free for the first three years. Currently there is no forecast for servicing post three years, however there is no reason to expect anything extraordinary.
Q: Is the Desmosedici RR able to take part in any race championships?
A: The Desmosedici is compliant with World Superbike rules today. However, Ducati has no plans to homologate the Desmosedici for World Superbike. In production based racing championships, such as Superbike and Supersport , Ducati will continue to develop and homologate our twin cylinder platform.
Q: The bike had originally been announced to be ready to be delivered in Spring '06 (the first one at WDW '06). How do you explain the delay?
A: Rather than setting a date as a benchmark for production, it was decided to set an extraordinarily high level of performance as the benchmark. As the Corse GP bikes advanced, so did our expectations of the DesmosediciRR. Many of the advancements applied to the GP5 and GP6 will now appear on the road-going version. We now are comfortable that we will deliver real MotoGP performance.
Q: Will the production bike be different from the one presented at Mugello? If so, what is going to be different?
A: There are always minor advancements between the early prototypes and production bikes, but on the whole the bike presented is very close.
Q: Do you plan different colour schemes or just one version?
A: The bike will be produced in two colour schemes; both are painted in "Rosso GP" red. One version will feature a white number plate on the tail and the other, the "Team" version will have a white stripe on the fairing and each bike will also come with a sticker/decal kit to make it look exactly like the GP bike if so desired.
Q: Are you planning to have electronic traction control or the drive-by-wire system?
A: Currently not planned, but we may surprise you.
Q: Which are the exclusive parts and components directly derived from the GP experience?
A: The majority of design, engineering and systems come from the Ducati MotoGP bike. See the Technical Highlights document for more details.
Q: What is the expected power value of the Desmosedici RR?
A: 200+ hp with the 102 db silencer installed. 195+ hp in fully compliant road set-up.
