Pro Italia is closed Sunday and Monday so ride The Crest.

Visit Pro Italia on Saturday, September 4, to peep four Italian marquees under one roof. Do it on Saturday because we’re all actually taking Sunday off to enjoy the holiday weekend after a really busy couple of months (Laguna, Desmosedici Raffle, Cafe Desmo, Newcomb’s Ranch Ride, Track Classes, Fundraisers). For those of you staying in, or coming to, the Los Angeles area we say: Ride the Crest! Support a local business, and a biker haven, by visiting Newcomb’s Ranch. As most still know the “front” way, up the 2 Highway, is still closed for repairs (notice the missing yellow lines in the map above). It will probably open in the spring (and what a party we will throw then!) but our favorite playground can be reached via Sunland (click for the same map as above). In addition to Newcomb’s, the Cosmic Cafe is now open at the Mt. Wilson Observatory. The Cosmic Cafe is now open on weekends from 10 am to 4 pm on Mount Wilson and offers a variety of fresh-made sandwiches and other treats to visitors to the Observatory. Not since 1992 has food been available for purchase on the mountain top. Have a great Labor Day weekend and ride the Crest, but ride it safely.

Cafe Desmo Wrap Up

Grazie to all of you who came out for our Cafe Desmo weekend. Our Friday evening cocktail party / book signing / silent auction was a successful kick-off event that raised over $2300 for Riders For Health. Saturday night we were rocked by The Lords of Altamont and Sunday we had a fantastic turn-out for the bike show and ride up The Angeles Crest which raised money for the rebuilding of our favorite road. We’ve gotten a few images up on-line of bikes and cool t-shirts (note the two with autographs: Kevin Schwantz and Earl Hayden). More will be coming, including vids, but for now, peep this short one of the bikes rolling out, lead by Lambos, and this one of Erik Buell and crew rockin’ up at Newcomb’s, both shot by an attendees.

Raffle Winner of Ducati Desmosedici D16RR Raffle Meets Bike and Beneficiary

Jeffrey Jones of San Luis Obisbo was the winner of the raffle for a Ducati Desmosedici D16RR. The D16RR was won by Jeffrey for the cost of one $40 raffle ticket. As a result of this raffle more than $30,000 was raised for a local, pioneering elementary school, The Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts in Los Angeles. The winning ticket was drawn on Ducati Island at the US MotoGP (Laguna Seca, CA) by former world champion Nicky Hayden. Jeffrey, who was parking when the actual drawing took place, found out about it later in the day when he saw his name posted as the winner at the Pro Italia display. “This is a bike I dreamed about but never thought that I would be able to own‚” said Jeffrey, who is a current Ducati owner and RN. He continued “even if I hadn’t won the raffle, I was happy to contribute to a good cause. Now I can’t wait to get the bike home and take it out. Thanks Los Feliz, Pro Italia and Ducati.”
